Morocco - Rabat

Today we took the train from Marrakech to Rabat which took over 4 hours, we checked into our riad on arrival and begun to explore the city. Our host recommended different sights to visit and also that as we were travelling to Chefchaouen the following day, advised that we arrange our transport as often the bus companies fill up rather quickly.

This was our first priority to arrange our bus tickets. On arrival at the bus station we were greeted by many people advertising their bus company and questioning where we were travelling to. However as I had previously read on the internet that the CMT company was a much safer and comfortable bet, we headed for their stand. We purchased our tickets to Chefchaouen and also from Chefchaouen to Fes. The man we bought the tickets from explained that the CMT buses did not depart from this station but a different one which he wrote the address of on the back of out tickets in Arabic so we could give it to the taxi driver.

Afterwards we headed for the Kasbah of the Udayas. It was really pretty with walls painted blue. The views of the sea were spectacular.

Afterwards we headed for the Hassan tower which is just a short walk up the road. Intended to be the largest minaret in the world and the largest mosque in the world; it was never completed due to the death of the Soultan Yacoub al-Mansour which is a real shame.

The morning we were due to leave for Chefchaouen we had time between the bus departing and when we were due to check out. Our host kindly allowed us store our luggage under the stairs while we toured Chellah to the south of the city, which we accessed but petit taxi which cost us no more than 11dh. Chellah was originally a Roman city.

Rabat was my favorite destination in Morocco. It was much less touristy than Marrakesh and so less people approached us trying to sell their goods or services; we were more at ease.

The following pictures are from the riad we stayed in. It was one of my favourite riads. The host was very kind and helpful and I would definitely recommend if you are staying in Rabat. It is easily accessible, a taxi rank and tram are not too far away walking and also the train station. The Moroccan breakfast was delicious. There was an endless supply of coffee, and for a coffee addict that is a huge bonus.
